PAWS, the Paros Animal Welfare Society, is a non-profit organization and depends on membership fees, donations and volunteers to carry out its work. We have been active since 1995 and became an official body in 1999.
Our goals are:
♦ Rescue and re-home abandoned dogs
♦ Manage the dog shelter (average 35-45 dogs)
♦ Transport and provide medical treatment to injured stray cats and dogs
♦ Find local homes for needy kittens and cats
♦ Organize weekly stray cat neutering at discount rates
♦ Feed cat communities (currently 16 cat colonies) at garbage bins, parking lots, when resort hotels/restaurants close.
♦ Help neighborhoods manage their stray cat and dog communities, by encouraging owners to neuter their pets
♦ Work with the island vets, the schools, the municipality, the police and the church to raise awareness about animal welfare
♦ Report animal abuse to the police; encourage the legislation to prosecute violators
We are all volunteers so we carry out the above activities depending on our availability and financial situation at the time of need. Everyone on Paros is encouraged to help out with any of the above activities.
