Frida
Merle, one of our volunteers from 2023, shared the story of how she and Frida found each other:
"In 2023, I volunteered at the shelter for about six months. I fell in love with several dogs but convinced myself that it wasn't the right time for a second one. I also believed that Barney, our family dog at home, would be happier as an only pet. So, no second dog in 2023.
However, while planning my second trip to Paros in December 2023, I checked the current dogs at the shelter and saw little Frida for the very first time. Little did I know that there was no other outcome but for me to take Frida home with me.
Frida was found wandering around Kolymbithres. We don't know much about her past, but she has several bullets in her body, which suggests she was either shot intentionally or by accident. Fortunately, the bullets don't seem to affect or hurt her, so she's a very lucky girl.
When I first met her on February 28th, 2024, she was calmly sitting in the corner of her kennel while the other dogs were frantically barking and running around. That's when I realized she would be the perfect fit for my sweet Barney. I told my family Frida would only be a „foster dog“ and since she has cancer I was her best chance for a happy life. Back at the shelter, Frida was already an absolute sweetheart—always close to me and ready for cuddles! And that hasn’t changed!
After 187 days in the shelter, Frida and I traveled back to Germany together.
Within just a few days at home, it was clear: Frida wasn’t going anywhere. She’s the missing piece my family needed. She brings us so much joy, and most importantly, she brings joy to Barney, which is all that matters. We've already had one side of her teat tumor removed , so one more surgery to go. Hopefully that will give us more time together.
Frida is the funniest, clumsiest, sweetest, and happiest little girl! We can't imagine our lives without her anymore.
Frida is so loved!"
We are so happy for sweet Frida. May you have a long and happy life!
